sr. Pompea with migrant women

By: Fr. Domenico Guarino

The resurrection is not a return to the past, but the beginning of something radically new. Jesus doesn’t simply come back, he moves forward into the fullness of God’s life. The burial cloths and the shroud remain in the tomb because this is a “liberated life,” over which death no longer has power (Romans 6:9-10). His path of compassion for the poor, his struggle for justice, his nonviolent resistance, and his total self-giving are not erased by death, they are raised, confirmed, and glorified.

The empty tomb is not just a mystery to contemplate, but a sign to follow. It invites us to leave behind fear, resignation, and all that binds us. Easter calls us to rise, to live with courage, to hope against despair, and to commit ourselves to the work of transformation, both personal and social.

In the light of the Risen One, may we walk together toward a world shaped by love, dignity, and peace.
