In June the Comboni Missionaries gathered in Rome for their XIX General Chapter with the theme and motto: “’I am the vine, you are the branches.’ Rooted in Christ together with Comboni.”
As part of their celebration, chapter attendees met with Pope Francis, who thanked them for their service to the Church and the people of God and encouraged them to live up to the theme of the chapter. He said, “This is why some great missionaries, such as Daniel Comboni . . . lived their mission feeling animated and ‘driven’ by the Heart of Christ. And this ‘drive’ allowed them to go out and go beyond: not only beyond geographical limits and boundaries, but first and foremost beyond their own personal limits.”
